Dr. Gruber

Miela Gruber-Cooley, ND joined the KIDSPACE staff in 2010. She graduated from the University of Bridgeport College of Naturopathic Medicine in 2005. Dr. Gruber complements the integrated model of care provided at KIDSPACE by working with families to address their unique and critical nutritional and biomedical issues. She has experience working with mothers and infants as a breastfeeding peer counselor and completed training in midwifery with the Massachusetts Midwifery Alliance and Association of Labor Assistants and Childbirth Education (ALACE).

Prior to medical school, Dr. Gruber was a strong advocate for children’s health and worked for the United Way of CT and Connecticut Children’s Health Council for several years. In April 2010, she received the La Leche League Health Care Provider of the Year for her work with infants and was voted Best of Hartford Naturopathic Provider in 2013 and 2014. Dr. Gruber is a member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, The Pediatric Association of Naturopathic Physicians, and the Association of Perinatal Naturopathic Doctors.

Since graduating, she has practiced holistic family medicine in West Hartford and South Windsor, CT specializing in children with unique nervous systems; including those diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD); Sensory Integration, Autism Spectrum, and Obsessive Compulsive Disorders; Anxiety; Tourette Syndrome; Down Syndrome; Huntington’s Disease; and a variety of genetic disorders affecting the nervous system. Dr. Gruber also treats mental health concerns and trauma.

Dr. Gruber has completed post-graduate training with Defeat Autism Now! (DAN!) and the Autism Research Institute and has had continuing education to anxiety, developmental delays, sensory integration, movement disorders, OCD, ADHD and Tourette Syndrome holistically. She is also an Advanced ThetaHealing practitioner and had completed certification in medical aromatherapy.

Dr. Gruber provides individualized and holistic management which includes pharmacy, specialized laboratory testing, and clinical nutrition. Many of her patients have made incredible leaps in function, some even losing their diagnosis, others functioning more happily and closer to being symptom-free than was thought possible.

Dr. Gruber has a joyful and loving way of supporting, nurturing, and caring for families, helping them to grow and advocate for themselves and their children. She happily works with families of diverse backgrounds and beliefs. She is the proud mother of five children, learning and growing as they do. Dr. Gruber feels genuinely lucky to have the opportunity to learn from her patients every day. She considers it an awe-inspiring gift to be a participant and witness to their journey.
